Food security analyst

Chemonics seeks a short-term food security analyst for USAID's ongoing Famine Early Warning Systems Network III (FEWS NET III), the world's premier provider of high-quality food security analysis and early warning. This is a part-time position requiring approximately five to ten days of effort per month. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include​:
  • Update and maintain a knowledge base of livelihoods and markets information to enable FEWS NET to monitor anomalies that may lead to food insecurity
  • Facilitate FEWS NET's efficient access to food security-related data and produce monthly food security reports and other reports as identified by FEWS NET
  • Collect and analyze relevant secondary data within the context of historical data and local livelihoods throughout Madagascar
  • Collect and contextualize information from partners (e.g., government of Madagascar, U.N. agencies, and NGOs)
  • Respond to requests for additional information on analysis, food security planning, and other information as identified by FEWS NET
Qualifications:
  • University degree in a discipline directly related to food security analysis, including economics, agricultural economics, agronomy, nutrition, and anthropology
  • Three to five years of prior experience in food security monitoring and analysis, or in a related field (agricultural economics or anthropology, for example)
  • Significant experience in collaborating and coordinating with partners and stakeholders
  • Excellent computer skills and fluency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent writing and communica​tion skills
  • Ability to travel extensively within Madagascar
  • Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and versatility
  • English and French fluency required
