Expression of Interest – Constitution of Individual Consultants for Animal Production Unit of AU-IBAR (Re-Publication)

The African Union Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) is a specialized technical office reporting to the Department of Rural Economy and Agriculture of the AU Commission. The Institution is mandated to support and coordinate the improvement of livestock as a resource for human well-being in the member states of the African Union and contribute to economic development, particularly in rural areas.
The African Union – Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR) requests CVs for the below list of expertise for its Animal Production Unit:
  1. Institutional linkages and coordination in fisheries and aquaculture sector
  2. Monitoring Control and Surveillance capability
  3. Fisheries Access Agreements
  4. International fisheries and aquaculture instruments
  5. Fisheries management practices – EAF, RBFM etc
  6. Inland fisheries management and development
  7. Aquaculture development in Africa
  8. Fish trade and marketing issues, including value chain analyses
  9. Fish processing, preservation and handling
  10. Fisheries economics
  11. Advocacy strategy for development of small-scale fisheries
  12. Molecular characterization and inventory of AnGR
  13. Genomics
  14. Socio-economics/ optimisation of breeding programmes
  15. Pastoral development and transhumance
  16. Livestock development Policy
  17. Formulation of Policy/ protocols and guidelines/ technical standards
  18. Database Design development, support in implementation and Monitoring
  19. Expertise on Property rights and Benefit sharing,
  20. Establishment and strengthening of livestock breeders' associations
  21. Communication (development of tools, support materials, capitalisation, dissemination channels, exit strategy)
  22. Natural resources Management
  23. Animal nutrition, animal feed
  24. Use of Biotechnology in animal production
  25. Wildlife management
  26. Ecosystem management
  27. CC and animal resources development
  28. DRM in animal resources management
  29. Honey bee production
  30. Environmental impact assessment
  31. Family poultry, Small ruminants, non-conventional livestock production
  32. Fodder and range management
  33. Livestock identification and traceability
  34. Dairy development

Qualifications and Competencies

Education: Advanced university degree.
Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years working experience in areas associated with the consultancy,
  • Experience in workshop facilitation
  • Fluency in spoken and written English or French.
  • Proven working experience on policy analysis and formulation is
  • Experience in dealing with senior government and international organization officials
  • Good networking skills and ability to maintain positive and constructive dialogue and relationships with key institutions operating on the continent;
  • Self-starter with the ability to strategically plan own work;
  • Very strong writing, analytical and communication skills are necessary.
