Fieldwork Internship – Agriculture

IPA Rwanda is looking to hire an intern to support its Agricultural Finance project, which will be conducting a follow-up survey beginning in October.  The study will examine the impact of innovative commitment savings accounts on farmer agricultural yield and economic well-being.  The accounts are targeted to increase savings for agricultural inputs, and the research will yield findings that will shape the program, which is run by the Ministry of Agriculture’s Land Husbandry, Water Harvesting and Hillside Irrigation (LWH) Project and funded by the World Bank. 
Position Summary:
The intern will work closely with the Research Associate and Senior Field Manager to support all logistics and data management during fieldwork.  The intern may be involved in training field staff on survey tools and digital data collection devices, observing surveys and monitoring data quality, and systematically documenting data irregularities.  The fieldwork will be conducted in several locations in the Eastern Province from October to December, and the position will be based with the field team. 
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse constituencies and in rural areas for an extended period of time.
  • Self-starter, resourceful and detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Ability to understand and consistently work towards achieving the highest quality data
  • Quantitative training, including econometrics – for example: undergraduate or graduate studies in economics or other field with technical component
  • Knowledge of Stata
  • Familiarity with randomized controlled trials is a plus
  • Strong oral and written English communications skills
The desired start date is Sept. 1 (or earlier), lasting through December.
