Internship – Education

IPA Rwanda is looking to hire an intern to help launch its Education project.  The study will examine the impact of two types of support to teachers – a lightweight program of in-service training for teachers on ways to formative assessment tools, and a teacher recognition program that systematically rewards teachers whose pupils achieve strong learning outcomes.  The study would be undertaken in conjunction with the Rwanda Education Board and seeks to build an assessment framework with which additional research questions could be examined. 
Position Summary:
The intern will work closely with the Senior Research Associate and assist with collecting and communicating key details about the Rwanda education system to inform the study’s implementation.  The intern may also support the planning process for the upcoming baseline fieldwork (scheduled for January 2015), including helping with developing and piloting survey tools, programming survey instruments, and training field staff on survey tools and digital data collection devices. 
Qualifications:
  • Self-starter, resourceful and detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse constituencies
  • Ability to understand and consistently work towards achieving the highest quality study design and survey instruments
  • Quantitative training, including econometrics – for example: undergraduate or graduate studies in economics or other field with technical component
  • Knowledge of Stata
  • Familiarity with randomized controlled trials is a plus
  • Strong oral and written English communications skills
The desired start date is Sept. 1 (or earlier), lasting through December.
