West Africa Region (WAR) Resources Acquisition & Management Director

The West Africa Region (WAR) Resources Acquisition & Management Director will drive growth in West Africa grants income in alignment with regional and National Offices (NOs) strategy and Regional Working Group recommendations by supporting National Offices effort in engaging and retaining governments, multilateral and private sector donors through successful grants implementation and strong donors relations. The Director will be responsible for West Africa Resource Acquisitions and Management (RAM) team, which supports the acquisition of new revenue (Grants, Private non-sponsorship and Gift in Kind) growth. The Director will lead the generation of an operationalisable Research Acquisition and Management strategy, manage donor relations, and the supporting acquisition and compliance capacity to achieve the new revenue targets throughout the region.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
  • Provide day to day leadership and management to the Regional Resource Acquisition & Management Team in supporting National Office's resource acquisition and management.
  • Provide guidance and create conditions necessary for the effective execution of Research Acquisition and Management Strategy and Regional Strategy; including supporting regional and national office Research Acquisition and Management and Grant Acquisition and Management staff providing technical and management guidance, and coordinating with Global Center and Support Office actors.
  • Work with Support Offices and National Offices to develop and maintain a regional and country level donors mapping and strategic direction and identify areas of alignment.
  • Build relationships and credibility with donors, using previous success and documented best practices in grants management.
  • Identify capacity gaps at National Offices in resource acquisition and management and other factors leading to poor award performance and work with Support Offices and the Regional Finance Grant Manager (RFGM) to address them.
REQUIRED SKILLS INCLUDE:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in International Development, International Relations, Rural Development or any related field. Master’s Degree in Development, Social Science, Management or other field applicable to developing country context preferred.
  • Leadership capabilities that includes coaching staff to high level of performance & engaging in effective cross cultural & cross functional working to achieve shared goals and effective indirect line management.
  • Experienced networker with an ability to maintain a good up to date knowledge of the grant opportunities and trends in the humanitarian sector.
  • Proven experience in development work with a thorough understanding of sustainable development and sectoral interventions.
  • At least 5 years of team management experience, preferably from a National Office.
  • Excellent knowledge and experience in project management with government and multilateral agencies grant funded projects and experience in grant compliance procedures for major bilateral and multilateral donors.
  • Demonstrated track record in proposal development, funding acquisitions and grant management for major government donors preferred.
  • Track record of successfully training, developing/mentoring and supervising grant staff.
  • Preferred: Excellent written and spoken English and French.
