Medical Officer

Solthis is an international medical NGO which contributes to the strengthening of health systems to improve the access to quality care in countries with limited resources and/or with the vulnerable populations.

Under the supervision of Solthis Head of Mission, the Medical Officer will be assigned to provide capacity building to health care workers (HCW) involved in HIV medical care in order to improve their ability to care, treat and follow up HIV infected persons.

Tasks and responsibilities

1.Support to national and / or district coordination bodies

· Participate to the elaboration and updates of national HIV guidelines and recommendations

2.Clinical mentoring and on site trainings

· Assess the needs to design an action plan to strengthen the capacity of the health workers

· Organize and conduct on sites trainings according to identified needs

· Provide onsite clinical mentoring to reinforce HCW skills & capacities on counseling, testing, diagnosis, prophylaxis, treatment and care, adherence, dispensing

· Provide onsite advices to improve organization of care and promote involvement of all stakeholders

· Provide training and onsite support on Infection Prevention Control in the HIV clinic in the context of Ebola outbreak

· Specific focus on HIV care in Ebola context (technical assistance on defaulters tracing, monitoring patient treatment compliance, management of treatment failure...)

3.Classroom trainings

· Assess the trainings needs of the different types of health workers

· Participate to the elaboration of course program for HCW involved in testing, counseling, prophylaxis, care and treatment of HIV, OI management, TB/HIV co-infection

· Organize and conduct trainings

· Participate to the evaluation of training activities

4.Operational research

· Participate in the elaboration of research protocols

· Implement and follow up research projects

· Check the quality of data collected in situ

· Coordinate the actors involved in the projects

· Draw up reports

· Participate in research grant proposal design and writing

5.Reporting

· Participate to the elaboration of monthly and annual reports in close collaboration with Solthis Head of mission

· Participate in Solthis annual programming session

Qualifications:

· Medical doctor with experience in HIV/AIDS

· Knowledge of public health and clinical research

· Experience in humanitarian emergencies context

· Experience in resource-limited settings would be an added value

· Experience in training would be an added value

· Fluent English, French is an asset

Conditions:

· Location : Freetown, Sierra Leone

· Contract duration : 6 months, renewable

· Starting date : March 2015

· Salary: according to professional experience + package (medical and repatriation insurance, transport, accommodation, monthly living allowance 610€).

· Pre-departure training on infection prevention control at hospital level and HIV sites in the context of Ebola outbreak

· NB : Because of the context and security concerns, the position is unaccompanied.
