Microfinance Manager

IESC – the International Executive Service Corps – is a US based not-for-profit with a focus on supporting private enterprise in developing countries. We have worked in partnership with local people in 130 countries - mainly with the generous support of USAID - designing, implementing, managing and evaluating a wide range of market driven solutions along the entire value chain of a company or industry.
IESC is seeking a Microfinance Manager for a Financial Services Program in Mali. The anticipated USAID-funded activity will be a multi-year effort to promote access to finance and increase investment in Mali, with the ultimate objective to promote sustainable, private sector-led economic growth. Potential areas of focus could include loan guarantee mechanisms; agriculture finance; small and medium enterprise (SME) finance; and/or microfinance. This position is full-time and based in Mali.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Play a critical supporting role in an initial financial sector assessment;
  • Support the development of larger Microfinance Institutions (MFIs) loan offerings;
  • Support the MFIs to develop new lending products;
  • Work with SMEs to establish new loans from MFIs;
  • Provide ongoing support to the MFIs to promote MFI capacity development;
  • Write scopes of work and support short term technical experts delivering technical assistance and training in Mali;
  • Collaborate with local consultants and volunteers to provide enterprise support;
  • Draft sections of program reports, identify, and report on program successes and achievements.
Qualifications:
  • University degree in business management, accounting, finance or a related field;
  • At least five years of experience working for a microfinance institution in Mali, ideally with some management responsibility;
  • Experience developing and/or marketing microfinance lending products;
  • USAID or other donor experience preferred;
  • Fluency in French and strong English language ability required;
  • Excellent written communications skills in English required;
  • Experience working in West Africa and in particular strong familiarity with Malian culture and banking environment.
