Global Citizenship Fellows Program, UNICEF Next Generation Fellow

Global Citizenship Fellows Program, UNICEF Next Generation Fellow: In July 2015, the UNICEF Next Generation Fellow will begin work with UNICEF’s Next Generation (NextGen) program. The fellowship is a highly-selective, full-time, thirteen-month program that prepares diverse and committed individuals for effective leadership in public service. The fellowship will provide an opportunity for the Fellow to be critically integrated into all of USF’s volunteer efforts by supporting the work of programs that contribute to the Movement such as Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, the UNICEF Tap Project, the End Trafficking program, Campus Initiative, Global Citizenship, and other engagement programs and charged with integrating them seamlessly into NextGen’s core activities. The Fellow will also gain a general overview of USF and UNICEF’s work around the world.
The Fellow’s primary function will be to help build and grow USF’s supporters by targeting young professionals, leaders, innovators and future philanthropists for USF who are committed to UNICEF’s mission. The Fellow will help develop and provide further engagement opportunities for the NextGen pledge program and will connect NextGen to the full range of USF and UNICEF’s programs and priorities.
The Fellow will be a member of the PACE team and will report to the Founder of UNICEF’s Next Generation. This fellowship is located in New York City.
Core Objectives and Key Responsibilities:
· Help build the UNICEF NextGen community across the U.S. by specifically targeting young leaders and professionals in their 20s and 30s to develop relationships that educate and activate them around UNICEF’s programs and mission
· Expand the membership base of NextGen by identifying areas of opportunity and growth and developing targeted outreach to recruit quality constituents
· Assist in engaging the NextGen Steering Committees (essentially young leadership boards in NY, LA, Chicago, and others TBD) and the emerging regional hubs (i.e. DC, San Francisco, Houston, Boston and Atlanta) to help connect UNICEF’s work and the NextGen pledge program to ensure members are dedicated and committed donors/leaders
· Manage the monthly NextGen leads call to organize efforts, synergize and further develop the national NextGen activities
· Coordinate and support individual NextGen members’ activities, receptions, and larger, organizationally-hosted NextGen activities and events
· Communicate with NextGen supported UNICEF Country Offices to document progress of NextGen supported programs/ remote volunteering, interview UNICEF staff and children/families who have been helped by UNICEF and UNICEF’s Next Generation and report back to NextGen on a regular basis (newsletter, tumblr, videos, etc.), to further motivate and engage NextGen and their network
· Create, record and manage the NextGen monthly missions, calendar and monthly campaigns so that they are unique to NextGen members but in line with the organization’s priorities
· Manage NextGen’s social media platforms (Facebook page, website, tumblr and twitter accounts) to help increase NextGen’s reach and USF’s campaigns across the country
· Manage and organize membership database and constituent counts, monitoring retention and acquisition
· Perform other duties as assigned
Through weekly one-on-one meetings, updated project plans/reports, and participation in department meetings, USF staff will monitor and assist the Fellow in meeting their own personal and project objectives. Periodic workshops, activities, trainings and professional development activities will be a part of the Fellow’s continuing education and support structure.
The Global Citizenship Fellows Program also offers:
· A deep understanding of complex, global issues facing the world’s children
· Training in UNICEF domestic initiatives, program and curriculum design, metrics and reporting, development and relationship building, group training, and consensus building
· Leadership skills development in problem-solving, volunteer engagement, community outreach, event planning, nonprofit management, communication, public speaking, and program management
· Hands-on project implementation experience
· Extensive personal and professional networking opportunities
Eligibility/Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have a demonstrated interest in and knowledge of children’s rights and international issues, as well as a commitment to public service. The ideal candidate will be a resourceful and energetic self-starter with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work autonomously.
All candidates must be available to start on the indicated start date (July 13, 2015), commit for the full term(through July 29, 2016), and be able to travel for orientation and periodic convenings.
Qualifications also include:
· Undergraduate degree and/or equivalent experience; professional or academic background in advocacy, education, civic engagement, international affairs, fundraising or related fields
· Extensive knowledge of the local community
· Experience engaging in community outreach and community education, including leadership development
· Demonstrated experience making presentations and leading trainings to small and large groups
· Excellent interpersonal skills and attention to detail is essential
· Must be a creative thinker with ability to proactively develop new ideas and outreach strategies
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities while consistently meeting deadlines and working across teams
· Strong communication skills, both oral and written
· Expertise in Microsoft Office (Outlook- 2010 preferred, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
· Knowledge in video and editing preferred
· Event planning and fundraising experience preferred
· Ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekend and evening commitments and travel within tri-state area as well as Los Angeles and Chicago (and other cities as needed)

Fellows will receive a taxable stipend of $30,000 for the thirteen-month Fellowship. Fellows are also eligible to enroll in the U.S. Fund for UNICEF’s medical and dental plans after thirty (30) days of employment. Applicants must possess current and valid U.S. Work Authorization and be eligible to work for any U.S. employer without sponsorship.
