The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) is Scotland’s principal environmental regulator charged with protecting and improving our country’s unique and beautiful environment for the benefit of everyone who lives here.
SEPA is leading the LIFE+ Smarter Regulation of Waste in Europe (LIFE SMART Waste - LIFE13 ENV-UK-000549) project. The overall goal of the project to demonstrate innovative ways to understand, tackle and reduce waste crime by developing innovative intelligence gathering and analytical approaches to identify and understand significant waste crime issues (current and future) associated with “challenging" waste streams, problem waste operators and illegal waste activities. SEPA is working in partnership with Natural Resources Wales, The Association of Cities and Regions for Recycling and sustainable Resource management (ACR+) and the Brussels Institute for the Management of the Environment.
Working on the LIFE SMART Waste project, you will:
- Provide expert advice on the economic root causes of waste crime with a particular focus on building understanding and intelligence on market drivers, competitive business behaviours and market vulnerabilities within the waste sector.
- Lead or help develop strategies and policy recommendations to tackle waste crime and to promote improvements in regulation and integrated policies at a national and potentially EU level.
- Design and demonstrate new and innovative methods, tools and approaches, for example, to analyse competive behaviours and market trends, identify and predict emerging threats and undertake financial investigations.
- Contribute to investigations and interventions to help deliver relevant waste crime related outcome measures.
- Provide financial and market analysis, statistics and business analytics.
