The King´s Sierra Leone Partnership (KSLP) is a long-term capacity building partnership between
King´s Health Partners in London and key partner institutions in Freetown, Sierra Leone. KSLP aims to
help strengthen Sierra Leone’s health system by improving training, clinical services, policy and
research. Key partners include the College of Medicine & Allied Health Sciences, Connaught
Government Hospital (the main adult teaching and referral hospital) and the Ministry of Health &
Sanitation. Since January 2013 King´s has had a small in-country team of volunteers, who are
supported by senior experts from UK.

KSLP is looking to recruit a new Mental Health Nurse Volunteer for its in-country team from June
2015. This person will be based in Freetown, will spend half their time in the Southern districts of
Sierra Leone (Pujehun, Moyamba and Bonthe) and will have a critical role in supporting the
establishment of integrated mental health units within the district hospitals in these regions. This
program involves five organisations, King's Sierra Leone Partnership, Enabling Access to Mental
Health, IsraAid, International Medical Corps and the World Health Organisation working together to
provide direct clinical supervision to the newly trained mental health nurses across the country.
Specifically, the role will entail the following:
o Clinical supervision of nurses based at the district hospitals in Pujehun, Moyamba and
Bonthe
o Support the establishment of integrated mental health services at the district
hospitals in Pujehun, Moyamba and Bonthe
o Support mental health nurses in developing strong working relationships with their
colleagues in the Southern districts and across the Country
o Work closely with counterparts in other districts to ensure good quality and uniform
supervision is provided across the Country
o Participate in developing a training curriculum for newly qualified mental health
nurses
o Design and participate in a study to evaluate the impact of the mental health nurses
on mental health care provision in Sierra Leone
o Design and participate in a study to evaluate the nationwide nurse clinical
supervision programme
o Contribute to monthly peer supervision group for Freetown-based mental health
nurses
o Contribute to training programme for all mental health nurses during their quarterly
continuous professional development programme in Freetown
