Faculty - Juris Doctor (JD)

by Unknown  |  at  3:21 PM

Join the founding faculty of the first Juris Doctor (JD) degree law school in the Middle East. A member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science, and Community Development, Hamad bin Khalifa University (HBKU) has been established to continue fulfilling Qatar Foundation’s vision of unlocking human potential.
Pursuant to this vision, HBKU has created a new graduate-level law school located in Qatar Foundation's Education City.  In establishing this new school, HBKU has drawn on a strategic development partnership with Northwestern University School of Law, one of the world's leading law schools.
The groundbreaking program consists of a three-year, full-time JD degree. The program will progress through three phases: (i) Theory; (ii) Function; and (iii) Application. These phases will provide the professional skills needed to bolster the unique goals of the sectors vital to Qatar and the region. The school is currently in the first year of operation, with a highly talented entering class and impressive international faculty.
In preparation for its second and third year of operations, the HBKU School of Law is looking for faculty at senior, middle and junior levels for the academic year 2016-2017. HBKU invites applications and nominations for teaching and is especially interested in candidates with expertise in the following areas of law: energy; infrastructure development; finance & global investment; healthcare; media & cyberspace; sports; aviation; government regulation. Full-time faculty candidates are preferred, but consideration will also be given to visiting faculty (and please clearly indicate which category you wish to be considered for).
Requirements
Candidates for senior- and middle-level faculty should have an outstanding record of excellence and innovation in teaching, scholarly research and service, and a minimum of a JD or equivalent qualification in a civil law or common law jurisdiction. They must have a demonstrated ability to work under the direction of the dean and collaborate with other faculty to create new curriculum that uses cutting-edge pedagogy and design to deliver valuable training and knowledge to prepare students to become leaders.
For junior faculty posts, a minimum of a JD or equivalent qualification in a civil law or common law jurisdiction is required. Candidates should have a superior academic record, with demonstrable evidence of, or a strong potential for, excellence and innovation in teaching, scholarly research and service.
Candidates who are able to broadly teach between multiple areas of law are preferred. Ability to relocate to, or current residence in, Qatar is required. Experience teaching and living in the MENA region is a benefit, but not required.
Salary and Conditions of Service
Remuneration package will be highly competitive and gaged to qualifications.  Excellent fringe benefits for full-time faculty include housing, leave, education benefits for dependents, medical and dental schemes, and relocation. . Initial appointment of full-time faculty will be made on a fixed-term contract with the expectation of renewal for longer-term employment. For visiting faculty, semester-long engagements are preferred, but in exceptional cases shorter-term engagements may be considered.
To Apply
Qualified candidates are invited to submit a letter of application, curriculum vitae, teaching and research areas (including a statement of any experience working with students of diverse background) and three references. Please submit all materials electronically to HBKUFacultyrecruitment@northwestern.edu.
For full consideration, apply by January 15, 2016. If you are interested in learning more about these faculty opportunities, please email Stephanie Thor, Faculty Affairs Manager at Northwestern Law, at stephanie.thor@law.northwestern.edu
