Internship Period: 01 March 2016 – 01 September 2016*

Who we are

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the world's largest international source of funding for population and reproductive health programmes. The Procurement Services Branch (PSB) provides low cost, high quality reproductive health commodities worldwide. It is located in Copenhagen, Denmark and services UNFPA offices, UN Agencies as well as Governments and NGOs. The Regional Francophone Africa Procurement Team is a key department within PSB, responsible for conducting international procurement processes for provision of key commodities and services in support of the programmes delivered by the UNFPA field offices in the Francophone Africa Region.

The Francophone Africa Procurement Team at PSB, located in Copenhagen, seeks applications and CVs from University students in order to offer an Internship for a period of 6 months each.

Duties

The selected Intern will be located in Copenhagen. She/He will be assigned to assist the Regional Francophone Africa Procurement Team in implementing specific projects identified for 2016. The main tasks will be as follows:
  1. Assist in conducting market research in connection with launching a bidding process and identifying potential suppliers;
  2. Review and keep records of recurrent procurement requests received from UNFPA country offices in the Francophone Africa Region which are not covered through UNFPA Long Term Agreements (LTAs) and known LTAs of other United Nations (UN) agencies. Work with PSB’s Strategic Procurement Cluster (Contracts Team) to identify existing UN LTAs and/or to establish new UNFPA LTAs covering those requests. Further, address the challenges faced by Francophone speaking countries of the Africa Region in using UNFPA’s procurement catalogue;
  3. Assist the team in conducting different studies and research as required, and in preparing data/statistics to be used for the special projects identified in the team’s Annual Plan 2016 and implementing the same;
  4. Assist the team by following-up on timely delivery of Purchase Orders already placed with multiple suppliers;
  5. Assist in the team’s daily procurement work in the absence of regular procurement staff, or during busy periods;
  6. Assist with special projects that the team or PSB initiates as well as some limited involvement in administrative tasks such as preparing meeting minutes, organizing courier shipments etc.
Working time: 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week

Qualifications/Qualities

  • Completion of secondary education;
  • University Student of business, economics, marketing, international development, communication, computer science, medicines or other relevant field;
  • Interest in development issues;
  • Good computer knowledge. Excellent working knowledge of MS Office and other software applications;
  • Fluency in French required. Fluency or good working knowledge in English required;
  • Service minded and excellent communication skills – both written and oral;
  • Positive attitude and a good team player;
  • Ability to work independently (required supervision will be provided).

The following experience/knowledge is beneficial but not mandatory:

  • Experience in international procurement and logistics/supply chain;
  • Knowledge of INCOTERMS 2010;
  • Knowledge of reproductive health related commodities and medical terminology.
Interns at UNFPA are not paid during the internship period. UNFPA will pay a stipend of $90 per week/$360 per month to cover the lunch and the transport cost.

Please note that only students enrolled in University programmes on the internship starting date or gruaduated within last 12 months are eligible applicants. Non-EU Students and EU students are expected to already have student permits issued by Danish authorities.
