JSPS-UNU Postdoctoral Fellowships at UNU Centre for Policy Research

by Unknown  |  at  4:22 AM

The United Nations University Centre for Policy Research (UNU-CPR, Tokyo) is now accepting applications for two-year JSPS-UNU Postdoctoral Fellowships in the following two research areas:
1. The Changing Nature of Violence: This research area explores the implications of the rise in organized crime and violent extremism for the UN’s conflict management efforts;
  1. Implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: This research area explores the challenges the UN faces in better supporting its Member States to implement the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected states.
The closing date for applications is 29 February 2016.
The Centre for Policy Research in Tokyo was established in 2014 to generate policy research and inform major UN debates in the areas of security, development, and humanitarian affairs. CPR is a small think-tank with 6 core staff, several fellows, and a broad network of partner policy analysts and researchers. Within a year, CPR has established itself as a go-to think-tank for UN policy analysis and support, contributing significantly to the Secretary-General’s Peace Operations Panel, the UN’s Peacebuilding Architecture Review, the post-2015 development process, and the World Humanitarian Summit.
Jointly organized by UNU and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS), the JSPS-UNU Postdoctoral Fellowship programme provides promising, highly qualified, young researchers with the opportunity to conduct policy research relevant to the main thematic focus areas of the UN, both in independent and team settings.
JSPS-UNU Postdoctoral Fellowships are offered for a period of 24 months beginning in September 2016. Candidates must have completed a doctoral degree on or after 2 April 2010, and candidates' research proposals for the fellowships should relate clearly to one of the research areas of UNU-CPR listed above, and also aim to be policy-relevant. Superior writing skills and advanced understanding of the United Nations are required. Candidates from developing countries as well as female candidates are especially encouraged to apply.
Completed online applications for the fellowships must be submitted by 29 February 2016. Applications will only be considered if they are complete and all required documentation has been received.
