OUR ORGANISATION

The IFRC Secretariat is organised into nine Business Groups, one of which is Management, which includes the Finance Department. The purpose of the Management business group is to enable effective governance in the IFRC and to provide general management support for the delivery of Secretary General and other business groups' objectives through services, expertise and administration of an internal control environment and the provision of advice for National Society capacity building in areas of competency, including Administration, Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology and Legal.
THE FINANCE DEPARTMENT
The Finance Department is responsible for managing the overall budgeting, accounting, treasury, assets, financial reporting and financial services operations of the Secretariat including managing internal controls, preparing statutory accounts in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards, safeguarding the assets of the IFRC to minimize risk of financial loss; and developing and maintaining costing systems and reporting tools to provide high-quality financial information and analysis that supports management decision-making. The Finance Department’s role includes providing advice and support on financial matters including financial policies and procedures to other business units at the Secretariat Headquarters in Geneva and to Zone, Region and Country offices strategically located around the world. The Finance Department is split into three Units, one of which is the Financial Services Unit, which has overall responsibility for financial accounting and treasury management and exercises financial control over transactions originating in Geneva Headquarters including worldwide income and Geneva expenditure. This position is based in the Financial Services Unit.
JOB PURPOSE
Provide support to the statutory contributions function during periods. Provide support to the Senior Statutory Contributions Officer during the process of consultation with national societies on the Study of Statutory Contributions Quota setting formula. Provide support to the accounts payable function during the vacation periods
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSABILITIES
Statutory contributions
  • Provide support to the statutory contributions process:
  • Process statutory contributions received and effect necessary accounting entries into Coda financial books.
  • Update and maintain database for Consultation process with National Societies.
  • Administer both the electronic and hard copy mailing process for consultation on Study of Statutory Contribution quota setting formula.
  • Provide support to collate and analyse the data received for Study of Statutory Contribution quota setting formula.
  • Undertake communications with National Societies on the status of their statutory contribution accounts.
Accounting
  • Verification of invoices for staff of loan (C2 delegates) against provisions booked for approval by Financial Services Unit Manager. Accounts Payable function
  • Provide support during vacation period with document flow.
  • Provide support for the processing of supplier invoices.
Miscellaneous
  • Perform administrative or financial tasks as required by supervisor.
EDUCATION
  • University degree in accounting or business
EXPERIENCE
  • Previous experience in accounting and finance position
  • Experience in accountancy software and population of databases
  • Experience in accounts payable
  • Experience in handling correspondence on accounting and financial transactions
  • Experience in working in a multinational, multicultural environment either in a major commercial company or for an international organization
