Leading Coordinator

The United Network of Young Peacebuilders (www.unoy.org) is looking for a leading coordinator with responsibility for our advocacy program starting as soon as possible. Full time position, based in The Hague.
We are a youth-led network of 70 youth organisations from 45 countries around the world. Our International Secretariat is located in The Hague, the city of peace and justice. The secretariat is run by a young and dedicated international team of four staff and two to four interns. The management of the network is done on the basis of shared leadership between two leading coordinators.
We are looking for a new leading coordinator, responsible for programs and advocacy. The purpose of the position is to lead the advocacy program of UNOY Peacebuilders – with a focus on advocacy for the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2250, co-directing the organisation as a whole, as well as providing leadership to the network and facilitating communications between member organisations and the International Secretariat. Fundraising will be an essential component of the position.
We strongly encourage candidates under the age of 30 and from the global South to apply. The position includes regular travel within Europe and beyond.
Important notice: We can only consider applicants that already are allowed to work in the Netherlands.

You will work on the following areas:

1. Advocacy
  • Ensure the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2250 through a strategic long-term approach to advocacy activities through continuous development of the UNOY Peacebuilders advocacy strategy
  • Coordinate the implementation of the advocacy strategy, including coordinating the Youth Advocacy Team, regional advocacy focal points and other advocacy working groups
  • Ensure the delivery of UNOY Peacebuilders advocacy message and advocate for young people’s participation in issues of peace and security
  • Ensuring visibility of UNOY Peacebuilders by participating in relevant fora including conferences, governing bodies and online discussions
  • Liaising and building relations with key actors in the policy arena
2. Fundraising
  • Identify funding opportunities and decide which funding opportunities to pursue, in cooperation with other leading coordinator
  • Build relations with relevant donors
  • Developing funding applications in collaboration with UNOY staff, members and partners
3. Leadership
  • Support strategic and annual planning processes for the organization as a whole
  • Provide guidance to staff and interns, ensuring motivation and alignment to both organisational strategy and values, in cooperation with other leading coordinator
  • Represent UNOY Peacebuilders towards external stakeholders
  • Oversee the capacity development program through supervising the program coordinator

You’re great for the job if you have:

  • a postgraduate university degree in peace and conflict, international relations, development studies or a related field
  • 3 years experience (paid or unpaid) working within the fields of peacebuilding and/or youth – preferably in the field of lobby and advocacy
  • project and event management skills (including budget management), relation-management skills, proven fundraising skills (including good knowledge of relevant donors)
  • excellent written and spoken English
  • a good understanding of peacebuilding and conflict transformation theory
  • a good understanding of youth participation in policy making
You’re perfect if you also have:
  • experience of a leadership position in a youth organization/movement/network
  • a solid understanding of the UN, EU, AU and/or Council of Europe
  • understanding of the gendered aspects of the youth, peace and security agenda
  • additional language skills. French is strongly preferred. Spanish, Arabic, Russian and Dutch are also useful
  • coaching and/or facilitation skills

The position is 1 FTE, with 35 days holiday per year. The gross salary is € 1.770 monthly. We provide a simple lunch and cover work related travel expenses within the Netherlands.
