At the Civil Service, we’re committed to generating opportunities for the nation. From business to leisure, we want to ensure that Britain is a great place in which to live and work. In order for that ideal to be a reality, we are constantly creating, shaping and revising policies that directly impact on every single person in the country, with every decision underpinned by analysis and research. It is a dynamic environment in which to pursue your career – and is one that we would like you to consider joining.
We currently have vacancies in both the Department for Trade (DIT) and The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS). The DIT promotes British trade internationally and secures economic opportunities for the UK, while DCMS supports all communications, creative, digital, media, cultural, tourism, sport and leisure economies. Across both departments, you will have the scope to work in high profile areas such as Trade Modelling, Research and Long-Term Analysis, Briefing and Rapid Response, Evaluation, Data Protection and Digital Skills.
In the Department for International Trade, we are seeking:
  • Briefing and Rapid Response Lead - managing and distributing urgent briefing requests, you will verify the authenticity of statistics and ensure the team is providing well-considered responses.
  • Head of Research Governance / Analytical Business Partner – within the Central Analysis team, you will manage the publication of departmental research and lead cross-departmental research plans, ensuring they are meeting your high standards.
  • Trade Modelling Analyst – maintaining and developing the HMG Computable General Equilibrium model, you will handle large datasets and use your knowledge of econometrics, economic modelling and international economics to take responsibility for specified countries as you estimate the impact of future trade agreements with the UK.
In the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), we are seeking:

  • Data Protection Analyst – measuring the importance and economic value of domestic and international data protection, you will commission and carry out research and analysis to help the UK balance the protection of privacy rights with the need for technological innovation.
  • Digital Skills Analyst – supporting the development of digital skills so that people can make the most of going online and within the workplace, you will commission, manage and interpret research to form an evidence base on the digital skills gap and be instrumental in influencing policy development.
With strong analytical experience and the ability to lead complex projects to tight deadlines, you will have the opportunity to work directly senior figures such as Ministers and Senior Policy Officials – putting you at the heart of key decisions. As such, you will need outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate your evidence into information that can be digested by a number of audiences. Economists, Social Researchers and Operational Researchers will also have a minimum 2:1 degree (or the latter category may have a 2:2 if they have a relevant work experience or a postgraduate qualification), while Statisticians will need a minimum 2:2 in a numerate degree or a postgraduate qualification.
